Christians serve the same God, right???

It is interesting to think about. When someone says that they are a Christian then you think of the Bible, and following Christ's teachings etc. However, the Christian community is so divided on so many issues that one begins to wonder. Let me give you an example. I was reading the paper about the Baptist convention that was held here not to long ago. The big issue was homosexuality. There were some who thought that gays have the right to be leaders in the church. God would not shun them and neither should we was the cry from this group. On the other side was those who made the point that Jesus would never have been around them and you have to watch who you associate yourself with (totally disagree with that line of thinking, especially if you read the New Testament in whatever version you want). What about those who say that God has only chosen certain people to get into heaven or that if you are a Christian and sin once, then get hit by a car, you are out of luck. There are hundreds of other differences out there, but are all of these Biblical? I guess you won't know until you dig in the Word yourself. Give me some thoughts on this.

I would say that there is a line to look at when evaluating the sin of homosexuality. I know men who would call themselves Christians and also struggle with homosexual feelings. Homosexuality is clearly sin, but so is stealing. There's a big difference between struggling with something and actually committing the sin. We are all sinners. To tell someone who struggles with homosexual feelings that they cannot be in leadership within a church isn't any different then telling someone who struggles with lying. The line, as I mentioned earlier, would be actually committing the sin. I don't think anyone should be in leadership if he/she is deliberately living a life of sin without repentance, but all Christians are sinners saved by grace.... but that doesn't mean we never struggle....

I think Christians are just so uncomfortable with homosexuality that it has become something they don't want to deal with and just simply discard or immediately discredit. I'd say shame on those of us that adopt this attitude. It's no wonder why Homosexuals do not feel accepted by Christians. They need to be accepted with love... that love which Christ so willingly gives us. We are all sinners and to shun a certain type of sin is wrong. Homosexuality is sin, but should not be ranked higher or lower than any other sin and should not be categorized.

Great post Purv.

In my opinion, homosexuals who refuse to repent of their sin, but openly live a lifestyle of sin, should not be leaders of a church. I would feel the same about an adulterer, a liar, a thief, etc.

That doesn't mean I don't think they should be welcome to attend church. I just think positions of leadership should be reserved for those who are seriously trying to live by God's word. If you are living and engaging in homosexual activities, I don't see how you can say you are seriously seeking sanctification.

I think the main issue of all is that people are vehemently denying that homosexual sex is a sin. My feeling, only a feeling, is that the denial of it being a sin is why the Baptists took a stand.

You're right Brian. We all are sinners. I don't feel one sin is any more or less than another in most cases. But if you deny your activity is a sin, how can you repent of it?

Wags-
Thanks for your comments bro!!

Truth-
I have to agree with you Truth. People need to understand that what they are doing is a sin, not because Christians say so but because God through his Word says so. This goes for all sins.

However, that does not mean that we turn them away or do not love them. It should give the church even more reason to love all people because we are all sinners and in the need of a Savior.
